Thunderstorms developed during the heat of the day across southern Illinois into southwest Indiana ahead of a disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere approaching from southwest Missouri. A surface frontal boundary was near and just north of Interstate 64. The combination of these features resulted in thunderstorms with locally heavy rain.
