Coastal Flood — Coastal Miami-Dade County, FL

Higher than normal tides caused coastal flooding along portions of coastal Miami-Dade County. A new moon phase allowed tides to run about 0.5 to 1 inch above predicted levels. These levels along with the small northeast swells lead to some minor coastal flooding along the east coast of Miami-Dade during the high tide cycles.

Wilma was a classic October hurricane which struck South Florida as a Category 3 hurricane on October 24th, 2005. Wilma developed from a tropical depression near Jamaica, a typical source region for October tropical cyclones, on the afternoon of October 15, 2005.
