Convection initiated over the North Carolina mountains and foothills by midday and then spread east into the North Carolina Piedmont during early to mid afternoon. The first storms of the day produced some damaging downbursts with convection then becoming outflow dominated. By the late early evening, the combination of slow moving and training convection resulted in isolated flash flooding.
