An extremely deep upper low was moving into the Four Corners region while a back door cold front moved into the region bringing record low temperatures to the Borderland. Southwest flow aloft combined with the cold front to bring severe thunderstorms on the afternoon and early evening of the 8th while prolonged lift over the stalled front around Luna county brought flooding rains during the first half of the day on the 9th.
