Major coastal flooding impacted portions of the southeast South Carolina coast as astronomical high tides were elevated due to the perigee and a new moon cycle. Tides were driven higher due to the presence of favorable northeast winds as the region was situated between high pressure to the north and Tropical Cyclone Sally which made landfall near the Alabama and Florida state line.
