Flash Flood — Wayne, IL

Aug 9, 2021

Repeating rounds of showers and thunderstorms produced isolated flash flooding of roads. A 30 to 40 knot west-southwest wind flow in the lower levels of the atmosphere was responsible for strong transport of moisture and instability. Precipitable water values were very high, ranging from 1.8 to 2 inches. A trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere over the mid Mississippi Valley helped to sustain the thunderstorms.
