Isolated strong thunderstorms developed during the midday hours in far northern Alabama, then dropped south through the late afternoon hours. One particular storm dumped very heavy rainfall that resulted in isolated flash flooding in the city of Cullman.

Heavy rains of around eight inches caused several roads in the southwest part of the county to be closed. The rains started around 730 am and by 900 am many of the roads were becoming impassable. Most of the roads remained closed into the afternoon hours.
