On the afternoon of May 22nd, a cold front approached from the west and then stalled over Ohio during the day. Showers and thunderstorms spread into northeast Kentucky ahead of the front around midday and caused a path of tree damage through Greenup County. A storm survey conducted in this area found evidence of a microburst with winds up to 90 miles per hour within the Lloyd township, which uprooted and snapped healthy trees.
