An area of showers and thunderstorms developed over portions of western and central Iowa during the evening of August 2 and moved into eastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois during the early morning of August 3. The showers and storms brought flooding rains of 1 to 5 inches to areas between Interstate 80 and Highway 34. This resulted in flash flooding of parts of Iowa and Washington Counties.
