Heavy rainfall in Hoback Canyon caused at least nine mud and rock slides which subsequently closed U.S. Highway 191 around the Sublette-Teton county line. Crews worked for about seven hours to clear the slides which averaged three to five feet deep. A guard rail was destroyed by one of the slides. Marks in a steep ravine indicated flows as deep as 10 feet had swept down nearby hillsides. Estimated rainfall was 1.00 to 1.50 inches in one hour.
