A line of thunderstorms swept across northeast Iowa producing widespread wind damage and flash flooding. The strongest winds were near the Iowa-Minnesota border with hundreds of trees downfrom Mitchell County east into the Decorah area.

A large complex of thunderstorms formed over northeast Kansas and advanced east into northwest and northern Missouri during the early morning hours. These storms formed at the intersection of a strong low level jet and a stationary frontal boundary.

A weak trough of low pressure was over southern Iowa as a reinforcing cold front dropped southeast into the state. The airmass was moderately unstable with dew point readings in the 60s. Surface low tracked east across central Missouri during the mid part of the day.

A nearly stationary frontal boundary remained draped east to west across Iowa once again. The atmosphere became very unstable during the afternoon with highs reaching the upper 80s to low 90s and dew points in the mid 70s to the south of the front.

A complex pattern was in place across Iowa during the afternoon of the 8th with two MCV's moving through the area. One lifted northeast across northeast Nebraska, the other lifted out of Kansas and tracked across the southern Iowa border during the evening.
