A thunderstorm producing very heavy rainfall, winds over 55 MPH, large hail, and frequent lightning moved across Allegany County between 7:30 and 8:30 PM EDT. A lightning strike started a house fire on Frederick Street in Cumberland at 7:45 PM EDT.

High pressure resided across the east coast while a warm front was located across the Carolinas. Moist air continued to move into the Mid Atlantic as showers intensified ahead of the warm front. Heavy rain produced flooding in parts of the Washington DC and Baltimore Metro Areas.

The Tide crest at Annapolis was 3.56 MLLW late Friday. Moderate coastal flooding occurred due to the storm surge from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ernesto. In Charles County, mandatory evacuations were ordered due to the flooding, with many roads flooded.

The same nor'easter which spawned wind gusts in excess of 60 mph also produced waves of 6 feet or greater in the Chesapeake Bay. Fortunately, the wind direction was from the north/northeast, limiting the pounding along the shore.
