A cool and wet winter and spring built up abnormally large snow pack across the Wind River Range. Warmer weather in June caused rapid melting of the snow and resulted in flooding along the Little Wind River for several weeks. The River Gauge at Riverton peaked above 10 feet.

Strong to severe thunderstorms developed during the evening of July 5th. In northern Johnson County. wind gusts of 58 and 60 mph were recorded. In Washakie County, a slow moving thunderstorm dumped over an inch of rain and large amounts of small hail in a short amount of time.

Severe thunderstorms developed over portions of central and southern Wyoming. In Sweetwater County, a tornado formed near Granger. The tornado was photographed by many people. The tornado remained over open country and caused no damage.
