A mid level disturbance helped trigger 1 cluster of storms during the predawn hours of the 18th. Those storms moved east, through north central West Virginia. Other storms affected the Interstate 64 corridor later that evening.

Training thunderstorms, rolling out of northeast Kentucky, hit the area from Prichard to Wayne and Lavalette. Wayne measured 3.38 inches of rain in a 24 hour period, most of which fell during a 3 hour period this Monday evening, the 5th.

A strong upper level system combined with a lot of low level moisture led to a period of heavy rainfall on the 15th into the 16th. Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches fell in 24 to 36 hours from north central West Virginia into the mountainous counties.

By 930 AM on 5th, roads were flooded in Pine Grove. By noon on 6th, flooding from small streams had ended, but then the Ohio River flooded: Hannibal OH was above flood stage (35 ft), from 730 PM on 6th to 230 PM on 8th; it crested 38.3 ft 2 PM on 7th.

Rains of 1.5 to 2.5 fell in less than 3 hours. In Kanawha County, evacuations occurred along Alum , Simmons, Witcher, Hughes, Georges Creeks. One mobile home was pushed off its foundation by Simmons Creeks near Belle.
